  • It sounds weird, but the first five thousand words of my novella, Tinkle, have been drafted. This morning, I laid out Part Two, the “Response,” per Story Engineering, and I’m feeling pretty good about it. I’m definitely having a blast writing it. Having fun is a MUST, considering few will ever read it, and it’s my first story over 20k, so it’s unlikely anyone will publish it either.

My updated synopsis is, “An IT nerd accidentally murders his boss playing the World’s Favorite Role-playing Game.”

  • Tinkle

In my “Writing the Novel Scene By Scene” class with Writer’s Digest University, I’ve switched my story from a kid who accidentally joins a cult to an IT nerd who accidentally murders people when playing D&D. Feeling it much more.

Seriously considering starting a site to share the book online, one chapter at a time, for free. Also broke out my novelette on “Shadow and the Bearded Monkey Boy” and enjoyed listening to it narrated by Speechify. I might just put it up, also.

  • My first short story (~2500 words) is out for FREE preview now at Blood Moon Rising Horror Magazine. The January 2025, issue #98. My story, “Buen Pedo,” starts on page 26. https://www.bloodmoonrisinghorrormagazine.com/bmr-issue-preview Please check it out! I promise it is short. Content warnings: Suggested physical and sexual abuse that happens off screen.

  • Last year, I let my career slip a little as I focused on writing. Now, as I consider things, I’ve decided to put my job back in front of things and spend less time writing.

I’ve enjoyed software development in the past and I have another decade before I can likely retire, so time to skill up and focus back on what pays the bills and treat writing as a hobby. It really is just that. It will never pay the bills and the feedback I am getting, tells me that I have a ways to go before anyone of significance witll publish my work.

That said, I was accepted for a flash piece this morning by the “Academy of the Heart and Mind.” This is a nice online publication that is friendly to new writers. They accepted a small story I really liked, “Is Anyone Out There?”
